Notes on the data
- Mechanical permit? (our reading): The "no mechanical permit yet" flag is our reading of public records, not a fact about the job. We mark a building permit No mechanical permit found when, as of the morning the issue is put together, our check of the City's records finds no mechanical (HVAC) permit linked to that project or filed at the same address. City records can lag or link permits in ways we miss, and an HVAC contractor may already be hired. We are still measuring how often the flag is right. For this sample we checked city records through Oct 4, 2026.
- 2026-049936 BP was flagged on Monday, Oct 5, 2026; the city issued mechanical permit 2026-049936 MP for it on Oct 5. So the flag is an early signal, not a lasting status.
- General contractor is the company of record on the building permit, as published by the city (we drop the city's internal "MAIN" account tag). Contractor phone is shown exactly as the city publishes it, and only when the city lists a contractor company. We never show individuals' names.
- Scope comes from the city's permit class, housing units and new square footage. Job value is left out because the city leaves it blank on most permits.
